Mains Water
Mains Water. The water supply to our homes comes in the first instance from the various regional or local water companies. It is in their remit to make sure that they supply clean and pure ‘potable’ water (or drinking water) via the water mains to our homes. This water will go through several processes to ensure it is clean and fit for our use. Stratford Plumbers know the mains system.Mains Pipework:Things called trunk mains move underground to supply a series of principal and local mains that are deep. Local mains that run under your street are often called the company main. The mains used to be made from asbestos cement, or cast iron. Today, PVC is used and are coloured blue. The House:The water pipe comes from the mains valve to just outside the boundary of the house where an external stop valve is fitted. This is called a Communication Pipe and belongs to the water company. An access chamber houses the stop valve. This is a vertical pipe usually marked to make identification easier. From this valve the supply pipe heads to the house in a service pipe, this is yours. The service pipe continues underground until it is inside the building. The Service Pipe should be in a sleeve as it passes under the house. A Stratford Plumber can identify all valve types. The Water Meter:A water meter can be inside or outside. If it is outside the house, it is normally found inside a chamber with a stop valve for isolation. Inside water meters are close to where the supply comes into the house and there will also be a stop valve. The stop valve makes sure that water coming into the house can be isolated in the event of an emergency or for maintenance. There will also be a drain valve here which allows for the system to be drained.<< Older post Newer post >>24/7 SERVICE NO CALL-OUT CHARGE GAS SAFE REG. PLUMBERS
